Sunniva Ophus
Sunniva graduated with a medical degree with research distinction from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). During her medical studies, she conducted research in Professor Emre Yaksi’s laboratory, investigating neuronal and astroglial calcium dynamics during seizures in zebrafish. Her previous research also explored hippocampal lesions associated with transient global amnesia, using MRI-based lesion segmentation and normative functional connectomics.
In 2026, Sunniva joined the Dupret Group at the Brain Network Dynamics Unit as a DPhil student, supported by several Norwegian research grants, including Jansons Legat and Marie Bachkes Reiselegat for Ungdom. Her doctoral research will focus on the diversity of pyramidal neurons across the cornu ammonis (CA) regions of the hippocampus and their contributions to memory processing, using electrophysiological recordings and optogenetic approaches in mice.
